An expression is developed for the ion current to a plane probe in a flowing plasma, for the probe surface parallel to the ion flow, and neglecting ion thermal motion. The application of the result to the measurement of plasma density of a plasma torch is considered.

Inspec keywords: plasma devices; electric variables measurement; electric current measurement; probes

Subjects: Other electric variables measurement; Other instrumentation and measurement systems; Current measurement; Bench and portable instruments; Other electric variables control; Plasma temperature and density; Plasma diagnostic techniques and instrumentation
