A new 10 Gbit/s class average-detection-type burst-mode limiting amplifier (LA) IC with SiGe BiCMOS technology has been developed. A burst-mode receiver using this LA IC can realise both a high-speed response and a high tolerance to consecutive identical digits. A settling time of less than 150 ns and a sensitivity of −29.8 dBm at a bit error rate of 10−3 with a 231−1 pseudorandom bit sequence was achieved.
