A new 10 Gbit/s class average-detection-type burst-mode limiting amplifier (LA) IC with SiGe BiCMOS technology has been developed. A burst-mode receiver using this LA IC can realise both a high-speed response and a high tolerance to consecutive identical digits. A settling time of less than 150 ns and a sensitivity of −29.8 dBm at a bit error rate of 10−3 with a 231−1 pseudorandom bit sequence was achieved.

Inspec keywords: random sequences; semiconductor materials; optical fibre amplifiers; BiCMOS integrated circuits; optical fibre networks; Ge-Si alloys

Other keywords: SiGe; pseudorandom bit sequence; bit rate 10 Gbit/s; SiGe BiCMOS technology; class average-detection-type burst-mode limiting amplifier; burst-mode receiver; PON systems; high CID tolerance burst-mode limiting amplifier; bit error rate

Subjects: Fibre lasers and amplifiers; Mixed technology integrated circuits; Optical fibre networks
