A new application of high-speed imaging to measure spatiotemporal vibratory behaviours of a vocal fold scar is investigated in excised larynx experiments. Eigenmode analysis reveals that pathologically scarred vocal folds produce spatiotemporal asymmetry and spread energy across high-order eigenmodes. The global entropy of scarred vocal folds is statistically higher than the normal vocal folds. This study suggests that spatiotemporal analysis may provide a valuable tool for describing the spatiotemporal dynamics of vocal fold scars.
