This article is one of a growing number of case studies to be found on the Marconi ECT website. TheECT in Society case studies to be found there are freely available to schools and to the general public and we present a shortened version of one of them here. The Marconi ECT project is designed to improve the confidence of teachers in schools so that more pupils will become interested in pursuing electronics as a career. This case study was initially written by Andy Cooper who lectures in the Education Department at Nottingham Trent University. The ECT in Society part of the website is designed to illustrate the wide ranging number of electronics applications used in everyday applications. This case study looks how electronics is used in one part of the world of music and entertainment and illustrates a visit to the Derby Playhouse.
