In recent age, the Photoplethysmogram(PPG) is gaining much importance because of its obvious advantages as non-invasive, inexpensive, and convenient diagnostic tool. The PPG waveform and its SDPPG are considered as useful method to obtain valuable information about heart and cardiovascular system. Since the information obtained from PPG and SDPPG indicates blood volume changes, manifests arterial structure and its related diseases and disorders. The PPG signal was captured by reflectance type infrared light transmitter cum detector. The IR pulse is passed through fingertip and reflected IR pattern is captured thereafter. This pattern is called PPG waveform and is considered as signature of cardiac activity. From the original PPG waveform first, second and fourth derivatives of this signal were extracted. The data acquisition and signal processing tasks were performed by MATLAB program to generate first, second derivatives of the original signal and then to compute the fiducial parameters of PPG waveform. A study with 10 peoples, each having different age, was performed with their PPG waveforms captured at rest condition and after movement. Using derivatives and by identification of inflection points, the fiducial parameters (time, amplitude of Systolic, Dicrotic and Diastolic) are calculated from recorded PPG waveforms. Photoplethysmo graphic augmentation index (PPGAI) has been calculated also as a salient parameter for assessments of performance of cardiovascular activity.
