Microstrip elements for an Ultra Wide Band (UWB) application is presented in this paper which is specifically suitable for underground communications in oil and gas field towards the emerging trend of the smart cities. The effect of several dimensions in the structure have been studied by parametric studies including the inner and the outer diameter of the circular shape elements in addition to the dimensions of the ground and the feeding elements. As a result, the final design has achieved an incredible UWB performance that exceeded the FFC requirement of 3.1 GHz to 10.6 GHz by far and achieved the unimaginable bandwidth of 8.6 GHz from 2.3 GHz to 10.9 GHz with the conservative s parameter criteria of - 10dB. The return loss, radiation pattern and current density of the proposed antenna is reported for a bunch of different frequencies within the operating band of the antenna.
