Nan’ao multi-terminal VSC-HVDC project is the first multi-terminal VSC-HVDC project operating in the world. But when a fault happened on DC side, it cannot isolate the fault area, and the only way is adopting the strategy of all of the three stations outage, which cannot reflect the flexibility advantages of multi-terminal. Based on the actual situation of Nan'ao multi-terminal VSC-HVDC project, a fault isolation scheme with DC circuit breaker is proposed in this paper firstly. Then the fault location method of DC line is studied, and the specific parameters for Nan'ao multi-terminal VSC-HVDC project are provided. Futhermore, a fast DC fault isolation strategy for multi-terminal VSC-HVDC project is proposed. Finally, the simulation model of Nan'ao multi-terminal VSC-HVDC project including an AC system is built on PSCAD/EMTDC, and the simulation results verify the effectiveness of the fast fault location and isolation strategy.
