Suspension insulator surface dry band will greatly change the surface thermoelectric field distribution, resulting in strong local field, the sharing of potential, too high temperature rising, so it will affect the stability of the normal operation of the insulator. In this paper, the influence factors of polyphysical states of the insulator after dry band formation is studied. COMSOL software was used to study the effect of different pollution levels on the surface thermoelectric field distribution of suspension insulators, and the change of the number and location of insulator surface dry band to maximum field strength were discussed. Simulation results show that the steel foot has high potential, while the electric potential of the gooses is low, moreover the pollution levels influence of dry band on the potential has a cut-off point. The temperatures of the steel foot and goosan are high, while the temperatures of the remaining parts are low, and the heat is collected to the goosan and the dry band. The strength of the electric field near the steel foot is high, and the intensity of the electric field near the goosan is small. Compared with reducing the number of dry band, improving the distribution uniformity of dry band is more important to avoid the pollution flashover accident. The results of three-dimension analysis are of practical significance to prevent pollution flashover.
