Composite cross-arms are used for constructing transmission tower structures due to their light weight, high strength, corrosion resistance, easy processing, good insulation performance and other advantages. In order to obtain insulation characteristics of UHVAC composite cross-arm insulators, the artificial pollution tests of UHVAC composite cross-arm insulator for single circuit and double circuit transmission lines were carried out.In this paper, the pollution withstand voltage characteristics of UHVAC composite cross-arm insulator with different pollution degree and the pollution withstand voltage characteristics of silicone rubber surface with hydrophilicity and weak hydrophobicity were studied, and compared with the pollution flashover voltage of suspension composite insulator with the same voltage level. The results show that the pollution flashover voltage and pollution degree of UHV composite cross-arm insulator have negative power exponent relationship when the surface of silicon rubber was hydrophilic; the pollution flashover voltageof composite cross-arm insulator under the condition of weak hydrophobicity is more than 15% higher than that under hydrophilic condition. The preliminary design structure satisfies the operating requirement according to the result of the pollution withstand voltage test for the UHV composite cross-arm insulator under the weak hydrophobic nature.
