Composite porcelain insulators are a new type of insulator. At present, the number of various types of composite porcelain insulators in operation at various voltage levels in China Power Grid has reached 3 million pieces, and its operating status has not been studied at present. This article summarizes the problems found in the anti-pollution treatment of UHV lines, and introduces the application history and current status of composite porcelain insulators. Sampling and testing of 42 pieces of 3 different types of DC composite porcelain insulators running for 4 years, it was found that with the exception of 21.4% of the test samples, the hydrophobicity was reduced to HC4 (including HC3-HC4), and other sampling indicators met the requirements of the standard. It was suggested that the storage, handling, installation and operation maintenance management of composite porcelain insulators should be strengthened.
