Typhoon is one of the most severe natural disasters that can heavily damage the high voltage power transmission network and even cause the blackout of major coastal cities. This work first collected the data of the faults of 110kV and above overhead transmission lines during the last 14 years in Zhejiang and Fujian Provinces. 479 fault records were collected and were stored in a structured dataset. Then the geography characteristics, like the distance between the fault towers to the canter of the typhoon and the distance between the fault towers and the coastline were analysed. The other characteristics, like correlations between fault time and typhoon landing time, were also analysed in this work. This work found that most of the faults were highly concentrated in the close vicinity to the coastline and the gust of typhoon caused most of but not the severest faults. Beside these conclusions, there are multiple other findings in this work that are useful in designing a typhoon disaster warning algorithm.
