With the increasing of DC load, the DC distribution and consumption system has obvious advantage in economic and technology. Fast and reliable protection is one of the key issue that restrict the development of DC distribution system. This paper presents a novel method based on single-terminal traveling wave to select fault line in DC distribution system. Due to the short circuit of the DC distribution system, the traveling wave transmission time is too short which makes the reflection wave identification more difficult. This method can accurately identify the fault line by using the initial traveling wave. The effective of this line-selected method is analysed by the electromagnetic transient simulation software PSCAD. Compared with the traditional method, this method has faster selectivity and higher sensitivity because it does not use reflected wave.
