This paper discussed the overview of building control systems and the customers expectations on using controls to improve building performance. The paper also presented the technology behind it such as: convergence and integration; communications standards; and Web technologies. Both embedded servers and applications servers plays important roles and allow distributed functionality and data management in geographical networks. Application service providers offer new ways to operate optimise and manage a building. (18 pages)
