An intelligent building is one in which the building fabric, space, services and information systems can respond in an efficient manner to the initial and changing demands of the owner, the occupier and the environment. The properties of intelligent buildings are aesthetics, convenience, communication, whole life value, buildability, flexibility and adaptability. The sensing requirements of the intelligent buildings must have affordable technology, a single source integration, a development of a single communication protocol, must have standards, solutions must be commercially exploitable and has technology transfer and invention.
