Coriolis mass flowmeters have been used for the last two decades in many applications for liquids and gases. In the various industries like food and beverage, chemical, pharmaceutical and the petroleum industry, coriolis flow meters have made a name for themselves as reliable, robust and accurate field devices. Mass flow is measured directly with very high accuracy. The instruments are real multivariable meters, because all meters also include a temperature measurement and a direct density measurement, from which even further variables can be derived (e.g. concentration measurement based on density). The trend in industry shows an increased use of these functions, which indicates that stronger global competition and thus the need for better process efficiency as well as stricter quality requirements, makes multivariable measurement and control more important than ever. Improving quality and process enables manufacturer to save costs in better production time and less wasted material. Producers need more and more accurate information about their processes. For this reason the ability to measure the viscosity of the fluid, directly in the process is implemented in the from Endress + Hauser. When it comes to measuring viscosity, there are no compromises necessary with regards to the acquisition of mass flow, density and temperature data. With this new feature Promass 83 I can now be used as a sensor for continuous in-line measurement of 4 important process variables (mass flow, density, temperature and viscosity) simultaneously.
