We present the microwave performance of optically transparent band-stop frequency selective surfaces (FSS). These are made from thick film opaque metallic, and thin film transparent oxide conductors such as copper and indium tin oxide (ITO). We demonstrate that both FSS types give satisfactory results. The metallic conductors, because of their higher conductivity and thus smaller skin depth, can be made micrometres thin thus improving as shown their optical transparency. Single layer metallic FSS are thus capable of reaching attenuation levels of greater than 25 dB. (5 pages)
