There are a wide range of analytical techniques that can be applied to the interpretation of images. The majority of these make no assumptions about the nature of the image. Examples in this category include both weighted and unweighted averaging and a wide range of filtering techniques. These methods can be applied to any image and require no knowledge of the form of that image. However, when analysing medical images, from either X-ray or MRI machines, we can make assumptions about the form of the original image. Additional methods of image analysis can now be used, including fuzzy analysis. This paper shows how prior knowledge of the components within the image can aid its interpretation. (4 pages)
