Interactive networked multimedia is widely promoted as the mass media of the future. DIAMOND, is an European Union RACE project whose aim is to develop and test a networked interactive multimedia system for consumer application. There are three main hardware components making an interactive multimedia on demand system: media servers, broadband network and user terminals. These components are discussed including a detailed analysis of requirements, design and implementation of the application management system. (4 pages)
