Multimedia applications demand the network to provide quality of service (QoS) requirements to the end user for smooth running of the application. Especially low jitter and delay are the important QoS requirements for multimedia and real time applications. Recently many geometric spanners, relative neighborhood graph (RNG), Gabriel graph (GG), Yao graph (Yao), and local Delaunay triangulation (LDel), are proposed for ad hoc networks. In this paper, we evaluate the performance of LDel, RNG, and GG for multimedia applications in ad hoc networks. The ns2 simulation is used in the performance evaluation of the spanners. The spanner LDel provides better QoS parameters than other spanners RNG and GG, because the spanning ratio of LDel is bounded by a low constant value.
