AB Voltage control is a prime concern of distribution system operators and is critical to their ability to provide consumers with the quality of supply that they expect. The main technique for achieving voltage control on the network is on-load tap-change transformers. The enhancements to the AVC control scheme using source drop compensation and pre-emptive tap changing enable the voltage control offered by the OLTCT to be improved. An immediate advantage of these techniques is not only that it provides an autonomous scheme which does not require communications, but that they can be added to existing digital AVC relays without the need for additional hardware or interfacing. The required changes can be accommodated in the relay's software. (4 pages)
