Performance measures and trade-offs of fiber-based all-optical sampling systems are presented and compared with alternative optical sampling techniques. A comparison with electrical sampling of 40 Gb/s eye-diagrams demonstrates the benefit of optical sampling regarding sensitivity and impedance mismatch. (4 pages)
