The detection of the channel bit-rates is a critical task for receivers in third generation W-CDMA systems. This is accomplished through detecting the transport format combination indicator (TFCI) bits. Two major decoding approaches, namely hard and soft TFCI decoding, are treated for this purpose and the performance of each is obtained through analysis and simulation.
