Efficient distribution of rich multimedia content requires personalisation of media services to client device and bearer link properties. The customisation of multimedia data delivery is imposed by the vast amount of network heterogeneity and diverse user terminal capabilities. The paper discusses varied personalised communication strategies whilst introducing a proposed scheme. In this scenario, media delivery is provided through content adaptation via transcoding at a central media gateway. This is achieved by acquiring terminal capability and link characteristics data from several distributed client-side gateways. Computer simulation results prove the efficiency of the proposed method.
