A major study conducted during 2000 by the UMTS Forum and subsequently published as a Report [UMTS Forum] assesses the huge market potential of 3G services, taking into account the latest industry revenue forecasts for three key services at the world-wide level. The study has enabled a much better understanding of the implications for launch and adoption of 3G services, and how these will be affected by regional (Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific) dynamics. The study highlights four areas of impact and change for UMTS/third generation services providers; business models, industry structure, revenue models, and market strategy.
