The Economiser t×2, a control algorithm to optimise the operation of any full air conditioning plant, is described. The function of t×2 is twofold: (1) It determines the state of the room air within a predefined comfort field, and (2) it controls the operating point of the energy recovery. The aim of these independent actions is to minimise the overall energy input which is used to condition the supply air. The methodology of the control algorithm is developed and with computer simulation results supported. Additionally, its applicability to the every-day HVAC problem is exploited.
