Several configurations of cavity-backed patch antennas are described and compared. Theoretical studies were accompanied with both impedance matching and radiation pattern measurements. The main goal of the project is to achieve smaller dimensions with a sufficient frequency bandwidth of microstrip low profile antennas. Two construction approaches-broadband cavity backed, shorted nonradiating edge, and slot & notch cut microstrip antenna-were combined. (4 pages)
