Transmission of digital broadcast signals according to the MPEG2 and DVB specification by satellite has become a reality by now. As within the analogue world monitoring of the transmission is a necessary precondition to guarantee a reliable service. Within the ASTRA network MPEG encoding and multiplexing and also all digital transmission are monitored at the digital network operating centre (DINO) in Betzdorf. A schematic layout of the DINO and the general principles of monitoring the ASTRA satellite systems are presented.
