Metal plates are widely used in industrial production, and defects due to aging, corrosion, and uneven stress distribution may reduce the performance of the corresponding equipment. To detect the presence of defects more accurate, we propose a new point-focusing Shear Horizontal (SH) guided-wave Electromagnetic Acoustic Transducer (EMAT) to detect different types of defects such as the rectangular and cylinder defects. In this work, the rectangular defects with various lengths and widths are investigated, as well as the cylinder defects with different radii. We note that the increase of the defect length will lead to a decrease of the received signal amplitude for the receiving transducer, and the amplitude increases as the defect width increases. For cylinder defects, the radius increases as the amplitude increases in the simulation. The study shows that the proposed focusing EMAT performs excellent capability in detecting plate defects.
