In this paper, a new control strategy - Frequency-based Synchronization Control (FSC) is applied to a Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) HVDC system which is used to integrate off-shore wind farms to an on-shore ac system. A detailed electromagnetic model is set up to evaluate the HVDC dynamic performance under the new control strategy in different contingencies. The results show a converter with FSC control can provide better inertial and voltage support to ac system.
