The aim of this work is to build a phantom suitable to characterize the behavior of gold nanoparticles (GNPs) using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in a clinical scanner. GNPs have been proposed for hyperthermia therapy of cancer in combination with an optical excitation. The possibility to monitor temperature within the entire treatment volume in real time would be a key point for a successful therapy and to minimize side effects.
