In this paper, it is presented an UWB printed monopole antenna for operation in the UHF range with application in the detection of partial discharge. The proposed antenna was designed using the ANSYS Electronics Desktop software and fabricated on a low-cost glass fiber substrate fed by 50 Ω microstrip line. The antenna was designed with truncated ground plane to get an omnidirectional radiation pattern similar to a dipole antenna. Numerical results are compared to the experimental results and present good agreement. The present antenna performs in a frequency spectrum of 3.6 GHz, starting from 240 MHz. These characteristics turn the proposed UWB printed monopole antenna very attractive for detection of partial discharges. Experiments were performed in the High Voltage Laboratory, at the Federal University of Campina Grand, using PD generator in order to validate the designed antenna.
