This paper presents a highly integrated IQ radar sensor with a single antenna for the velocity measurement of precipitation particles. The sensor measures one desired velocity component of the particles while masking the other ones. This is essential to calculate the amount of precipitation accurately. The maximum measurement error for the desired velocity component is 2.2 %. This is achieved by forming the radar beam with a patch antenna in combination with a dielectric lens.
