Based on a narrow-band plate-patch antenna, a novel wideband monopole antenna with low-profile is proposed in this paper. By adding a hollow metal cylinder on the center of the ground plate, an approximately 4:1 bandwidth can be obtained, where the electrical height of the antenna at the lower edge frequency of the bandwidth is approximately 0.06 wavelength. It also provides good omni-direction radiation characteristics. The proposed antenna provides valuable reference for the future wideband low-profile antenna design and shows great value in the fields of communication.
