Batch creation of 3D models in large scale has always been one of the important factors which restrict the development and application of 3D city GIS. Traditional modeling tools cannot combine with parameter dependence of the internal entities to build reusable models. This paper provides an overview of Esri CityEngine and its semantic rules of three-dimensional modeling. Take certain region for example, the paper describes the data organization, modeling procedure, and the method of building semantic rule of 3D city batch modeling based on CityEngine. A 3D semantic rule of the modeling area has been built. According to 2D GIS vector data and highly-precise terrain data, and used the rule, the 3D semantic model has been set up and visualized successfully in ArcScene in study area.
