This paper proposes a kind of hardware platform design method of dual mode portable navigator based on OMAPL138. In this method, GPS and COMPASS signals can be received at the same time and it realizes the mutual compatibility furthermore. This paper presents the design details of the processor module, the software receiver module, the power supply module and the bootstrap drivers program of the navigator. It uses the processing advantages of the ARM core and the high digital processing ability of the DSP core, combining with WinCE friendly user interface in this method. The portable dual mode navigator has the characteristics of high performance and low power consumption. (4 pages)
