Video processing is wildly used in traffic detection, and it needs a lot of process time of CPU. GPU computing is deeply parallelized and the performance of float-point computing is highly-efficient comparing with the traditional GPU. GPUs are also in cheap price. More and more video processing algorithms are going to add GPU support. This paper describes an effective image background generation algorithm and its GPU implementation. The performance of GPU-based background extraction method is presented. And some issues about its application are discussed as well.
