Blockchain is a digital ledger of transactions duplicated and distributed across an entire network of computer systems on the blockchain which makes it more difficult to hack or tamper with. The popularity of blockchain has been increasing with the growth of social media and the internet of things (IoT). Social media are interactive digitally mediated technologies that facilitate the creation or sharing and exchange of information, ideas, opinions and interests via virtual communities and social network platforms. However, unmonitored social accounts can be the target of hackers who post fraudulent messages or virus-infected links that spread to contacts and followers, and "employee weakness" is responsible for 20% of cyberattacks in companies. So, it has become essential to secure both personal and professional social media networks, accounts and data.
Blockchain Technology for Secure Social Media Computing covers recent advances, trends and future opportunities in the security framework of social media-computing. The contributors focus on how to protect social media platforms, and present methods for making social media computing more reliable and effective to achieve trusted IoT-based social computing with blockchain technology.
The book is aimed at an advanced research audience in industry and academia focused on blockchain technology and social media computing working in cybersecurity, security data analytics, computer science, distributed computing, networking, internet of things and related fields of applications. It will be also of interest to application and software developers and project managers using blockchain technology and multiple encryptions.

Online social media (OSMs) have transformed the way of communication and have gained popularity in the life of users globally. Ever since their inception in 1996, OSMs have succeeded to infiltrate 4.48 billion people worldwide and there is an increased drift perennially highly influencing the privacy issues in OSMs. For example, the distribution of misleading information on OSMs as the platform is incapable to moderate the content successfully. It has been witnessed in recent times of the COVID-19 epidemic that OSNs have permitted individuals to spread fake news on diverse social media platforms. Even before the COVID-19 outbreak, OSMs were struggling to overcome issues such as censorship, privacy, and user control. To solve the significant issues in OSMs decentralization of social services is considered a potential solution and blockchain technology at present is the most prominent technique for decentralization of online social platforms. However, a dearth of studies extensively discussing the merits of blockchain technology for OSMs. This chapter presents an overview of concerns related to traditional OSMs and explores what happens when blockchain is incorporated in OSMs emphasizing the prominent services and features of a few trending OSM platforms based on blockchain technology.

Social media is rapidly developing in many folds, but as its growth expands, many issues are also growing. Some severe issues in social media are data security and less privacy because of its centralized nature, which exploits user information. As these are some biggest problems in social media, technologists associated blockchain technology with social media to provide security and privacy in all transitions of social media networks, which have the property of decentralization and strong end-to-end encryption to avoid tracking the user from third-party attacks. We can use distributed ledger-based payment infrastructure for fast processing of payment in real time to prevent the data from any fraud or a security breach and improve payment security significantly. Blockchain provides transparent payment flow to enhance the payment systems but still has many concerns which can be quickly dealt with to get maximum benefits of this technology. In logging or registering a legitimate user in social networks, we use two-factor authentication principles, which reduce the risk of an account being compromised and prevent an expropriating of a legitimate account and posting malicious content. To avoid all these pitfalls, the identification process should be very strong, and it should be capable enough to validate history. This system should not encourage people to overemphasize or lie about their history.

In this book chapter, we introduce a framework leveraging the intelligence of the crowd to improve the quality, credibility, inclusiveness, long-term impact and adoption of research, particularly in the academic space. This integrated platform revolves around a central knowledge graph (KG) which interacts through artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms with the community. In combination with Internet of Things (IoT) technology and blockchain, a highly productive environment including liquid governance and arbitration is created to fairly acknowledge and attractively incentivize contributions of valuable intellectual property (IP) to this knowledge base. In the proposed platform, various stakeholders customize their terms of agreement to be followed while validating the transactions on blockchain, known as smart contracts. Through the interaction of smart contracts and stakeholders, the agreement based on objective (scientific) criteria will gradually emerge from the simulated interaction and, if applicable, its experimental/empirical verification.
