This book uses the International System of Units (SI), also known as the metric or mks system (for meter, kilogram, second). Factors for converting to and from other common units are given in Table 6.1. Parameter values are often expressed in units that are multiples of SI units by a factor of ten to some power. These factors, along with the corresponding prefix and its abbreviation, are given in Table 6.2.
