Librarian administration area

This area is designed to provide library customers with useful tools to help administer their institutional accounts, such as:

A guide for Librarians – IET Open Access

The Journal of Engineering is a fully open access journal providing a forum for the publication of original primary research findings across a broad spectrum of engineering. All articles are peer reviewed with a 'binary' accept or reject decision being made on the basis of the validity of the research being reported, including the soundness of the research methods employed and the analysis undertaken to reach conclusions.

Open access article publishing is also available in all other IET Journals. These journals are now hybrid publications.

We welcome your input
The following in conjunction with our author guides and general FAQs should help inform you about the IET’s open access offering. However, we would be interested in your comments and views. Tell us how open access publishing works in your institution, what are your views on licences available generally (not just from IET), what data do you want to see available in order to assess the use of open access funds and monitor articles published, how relevant to you is the discussion surrounding multi-author papers and the requirement to split payments amongst authors and between funding bodies? Finance and administration
An article processing fee is payable for open-access publication of accepted papers in all IET journals, $1150 in The Journal of Engineering and $1450 in all hybrid publications. Currently, the article processing charge is paid by one (corresponding) author on behalf of all authors. No split payments can be made at present. Authors can pay by credit card or invoice.

All IET Journals other than The Journal of Engineering will remain as subscription products. The IET will monitor their percentage of open-access content for future subscription price setting.

Licensing options
In terms of how work is licensed for publication to us, we are offering a number of different licences to authors to reflect the different compliance issues surrounding funder mandates. The range was designed to reflect the best possible options for authors. They can select from the following licence options:

Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) This licence lets others distribute, remix, tweak, and build upon your work, even commercially, as long as they credit you for the original creation. This is the most accommodating of licences offered. Recommended for maximum dissemination and use of licenced materials. (If your work is funded by The Wellcome Trust or Research Councils UK you must use this licence.)

Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivs (CC BY-ND) This licence allows for redistribution, commercial and non-commercial, as long as it is passed along unchanged and in whole, with credit to you.

Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial (CC BY-NC) This licence lets others remix, tweak, and build upon your work non-commercially, and although their new works must also acknowledge you and be non-commercial, they don’t have to licence their derivative works on the same terms.

Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs (CC BY-NC-ND) This licence is the most restrictive licence we offer, only allowing others to download your works and share them with others as long as they credit you, but they can’t change them in any way or use them commercially.

Waivers/discounts for members
Members: IET members are entitled to a 15% discount on the fee, subject to correct entry of a valid membership number.

Developing countries: The IET offers fee waivers for researchers in developing countries, determined using the criteria set by Research4Life, which provides free or low-cost access to scientific journals, books and databases for scientists, practitioners, students and faculty in the developing world.

Author URLs for IET Journals

Articles published in IET journals now come with an author URL – a free-access link that authors can share with colleagues in the crucial six months following publication (free and open access articles will always be available).

This free service comes with every IET journal. It supports authors by enabling them to showcase their work, and raise the profile of their institutions. It encourages wider usage and increases the chances of a paper receiving citations. It also boosts the impact of every article published, making the journal more popular with readers and contributors, all at no extra cost. In order to preserve the long-term value of the work and the journal where it is published, the links are regularly monitored by the IET to detect potential abuse.

Archival and Perpetual Use Rights

IET has partnered with the CLOCKSS Archive to preserve the entire digital range available on the IET Digital Library.  This arrangement ensures that all IET eJournals, eBooks, conference and magazine content as well as IET Inspec are preserved within the CLOCKSS preservation archive making content freely available to everyone after a “trigger event”.

The CLOCKSS (Controlled LOCKSS) Archive is a not-for-profit joint venture between the world's leading scholarly publishers and research libraries whose mission is to build a sustainable, geographically distributed dark archive with which to ensure the long-term survival of Web-based scholarly publications for the benefit of the greater global research community.
