Published from 1955-1963, the Journal of the IEE contained features which were designed to illustrate and interpret the record of electrical progress in the Proceedings of the IEE. It also provided members with reference information on Institution activities and was intended to enable specialist electrical engineers to know something of what was happening in all branches of their profession. The journal included special articles on current Institution papers and follow-up articles to explain how a subject had progressed since a paper was originally published. Another feature was the Electrical Engineering Review, which covered narrower fields in some detail but in a style that was fully intelligible to all electrical engineers, no matter what their speciality. A third feature was the correspondence page. A section entitled "News from Abroad" explained the activities of overseas members, and the journal also included critical commentaries on engineering topics of general interest and articles on subjects such as law or economics which were written to appeal to engineers.
