A phase-compensating Fresnel lens using a perforated dielectric material has been designed and fabricated. The perforations in the dielectric material were designed to create the zones of different dielectric constants needed to obtain proper phase compensation in a Fresnel lens. A prototype lens designed to operate at 30 GHz was fabricated, and consisted of zones with four different synthesised values of dielectric constant. The 15 cm diameter lens had a peak gain of 28 dBi, resulting in an aperture efficiency of 33%.
