The paper presents a new two-terminal transmission-line fault-location algorithm without requiring line parameters. The voltage and current measurements at both ends of a transmission line during a fault are assumed to be available and no synchronisation of the data is required. The proposed algorithm is suitable for estimating the location of asymmetric faults on a line when line parameters are not available. Evaluation studies using both simulated and field data are reported.
