A method to analytically evaluate the linearity performance of harmonic oscillators is proposed. The approach is based on the phasor method and provides closed-form equations that extend our knowledge on harmonics generation and are particularly useful for the designer. Three design examples (tunnel diode, Colpitts and Hartley oscillators) are provided and simulations are found in close agreement with expected results.
