An existing temporal direct mode exploits temporal correlation of adjacent pictures to derive motion vectors. An advanced temporal direct mode using temporal and spatial correlations adaptively is introduced. In particular, the spatial correlation of neighbouring blocks is employed in the case of a co-located block being coded in intra mode.
