The design and operation of a modular current-fed DC-DC converter is described, together with the implementation of an algorithm for tracking the maximum power point of a photovoltaic array. The method utilises inherent features of the array current to obtain a fast control action. A novel test setup for the converter system has been developed, and test results are presented which show correct operation of the system with a response time of only a few milliseconds.
