The authors consider a logical full-mesh wavelength division multiplexing bi-directional ring using optical arrayed-waveguide grating add-drop multiplexers, and evaluate the maximum number of nodes that can be supported. If the arrayed waveguide grating crosstalk is less than –35 dB and the erbium-doped fibre amplifier saturation power larger than 13 dBm, it is shown that a network supporting 11 nodes is feasible.
