A novel method adopting a split-step algorithm is used to numerically solve the time-dependent coupled-wave equations, which are frequently used in the analysis of photonic devices including DFB/DBR structures. The new split-step algorithm is shown to be much more accurate and efficient than the conventional algorithm.
