A new type of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) ring network architecture based on the broadcast-and-select approach is proposed. Preliminary analysis shows that the architecture, with a simple node design and crosstalk immunity, enables diversity routing, which is essential for survivable WDM ring networks, at a minimum cost of additional fibre.
