A high peak power all-fibre pulsed source at 1.53 µm, based on an amplified Q-switched fibre laser is presented. Peak powers higher than 2 kW and pulsewidths of ~20 ns at repetition rates up to 1 kHz are demonstrated. Pumped with a single compact pump source (MOPA), this device constitutes a very powerful field pulse generator.
