Decay behaviour of second-order nonlinearity in GeO2-SiO2 glass poled with UV-irradiation
Quantitative decay measurement of the second-harmonic generation (SHG) at various elevated temperatures is reported for a GeO2-SiO2 glass with 15.7 GeO2 mole %, poled with UV-irradiation. It has been observed that the decay behaviour of the induced SHG is a single-exponential process in the temperature range 200–500 °C. From the Arrhenius plot of the decay time-constant, the activation energy of the induced SHG is 0.41 ±0.05 eV, and the decay time-constant at 15°C is ~280 days.
